The stars come out to celebrate a new Lowry masterpiece!
Last night saw the stars arrive in MediaCityUK for the Gala Premiere of Mrs Lowry and Son at The Lowry Theatre.
It’s been an inspiring and thought provoking week after the BBC and MediaCityUK joined forces to deliver a programme of interesting events to focus our community’s mind on the issue of sustainability.
To kick start the week we teamed up with City of Trees to raise awareness and funds to help make Salford greener through the planting of 500 trees which will be an amazing legacy for our community to give.
Many speakers offered their time to educate us, including Adele Jordan from Cracking Good Food who shared her ethos on the sustainable sourcing, cooking and sharing of food.
BBC weather presenter, Simon King also gave an insight into the reality of climate change while Emma Peddie from the BBC’s sustainability team shared ideas on how we can all adopt three new habits to support sustainable living.
Influencers from across the city came together on a snowy Wednesday evening for the Future Manchester seminar hosted by the BBC and sponsored by Peel Media.
Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham shared his aspirations for Manchester to become a green city, citing Copenhagen’s pledge to become carbon neutral by 2025. Comedian and environmentalist Dr Matt Winning cleverly delivered the facts about climate change through humour while Planet Earth cameraman Doug Allan gave a fascinating insight into his work and how he has seen, first hand, the effects of climate change on polar bears in the Arctic.
Stephen Wild, Managing Director of MediaCityUK said: “This week has shown us that by working together we can change things for the better. There are some great initiatives out there and by sharing information, ideas and pulling together as a community we become a great example of how we can make a real difference for the good of the environment.”
